Werden die 2021 WPFG verschoben?
28. Juni 2020Datum der WPFG in Rotterdam veröffentlicht
Olympische Spielen in Tokio, Fußball EM Europa).
“ Dear friends,
The coronavirus has the whole world in its grip, and that includes the World Police & Fire Games. Because of the unpredictability created by the pandemic, the federation of the World Police & Fire Games, in consultation with the organization of the WPFG Rotterdam, has decided not to organize the Games in 2021 and to investigate further how we can make the event possible in 2022.
The Games were scheduled to take place from 30 July to 8 August 2021 in Rotterdam. Registration for participants was due to open directly after the summer. In view of the uncertainty surrounding development of a vaccine, the health risks and the measures to be followed, we do not consider it responsible to encourage Police, Fire, Customs and Corrections personnel worldwide to take part together next year in this large-scale mixed-sport event.
Apart from this main reason, there are two other important arguments for postponing the WPFG. Many events are being moved from summer 2020 to 2021, and that makes 2021 a very full year. In addition, because of people’s reluctance to book travel and the slow pace of air traffic starting up again, we believe that we will not be able to realize our ambitions with regard to the number of participants.
Another aspect is that, due to the coronavirus, there are currently too many uncertainties to allow effective preparation for the World Police & Fire Games in 2021. By taking this decision now, we are first and foremost giving timely clarity to the participants, but also to all the parties involved in the organization of the World Police & Fire Games 2021. As a result, we expect to limit the impact of the decision to move the event.“
